Introduction

The Authorised Gas Tester and Entry Supervisor (AGTES) is an advanced leadership program designed to develop the technical competence and supervisory judgment required for managing confined space operations. It addresses the reality that confined space incidents often stem from underestimated risks or misinterpreted atmospheric readings, placing the responsibility on the supervisor to validate safety conditions and approve entry. Over a three-day duration, participants engage in a mix of facilitated discussions, risk assessment workshops, and hands-on simulations using actual gas detectors and breathing apparatus. The curriculum covers advanced hazard recognition, the legal authority of supervisors, and the implementation of ventilation strategies to control hazardous atmospheres. Participants also learn to master the permit-to-work system, conduct entry team briefings, and manage emergency preparedness to prevent secondary casualties during incidents.
